Senior Network Engineer (m/f/d)

To strengthen our team, we’re looking for an experienced Senior Cloud Engineer (m/f/d) to provide technical support for our cloud and data center infrastructure and to continuously improve it.

Since 1971, we at GRASS-MERKUR in Hanover have been designing digital infrastructure that others can rely on. • You plan, design, and implement modern Layer 2 and Layer 3 networks
• You build and further develop spine-leaf architectures
• You configure and operate BGP-based networks
• You plan and implement EVPN, including EVPN multihoming
• You develop and optimize routing and switching concepts
• You operate complex network environments and analyze and resolve Layer 2 and Layer 3 issues
• You plan and implement redundancy, high-availability, and failover concepts
• You carry out changes, migrations, and expansions during live operations
• You create and maintain network documentation and technical concepts
• You work closely with system administration, cloud, security, and DevOps teams
• You assist with the automation and standardization of network processes

• Layer 2: VLAN, 802.1Q, LACP, STP, MLAG and Ethernet
• Layer 3: IPv4/IPv6, Routing, OSPF, BGP, ECMP and High Availability
• Data Center: Spine-Leaf, VXLAN, EVPN, BGP-EVPN, Underlay/Overlay, Anycast Gateway, OVS/OVN
• Automation: Ansible, Python, REST APIs and Infrastructure as Code

• Several years of professional experience as a Network Engineer or Network Administrator (m/f/d)
• Very good knowledge of IPv4/IPv6, TCP/IP, and Ethernet
• In-depth knowledge of Layer 2 and Layer 3 technologies
• Extensive experience with BGP and EVPN
• Proficiency with VLAN, LACP, EVPN multihoming, MLAG, or comparable redundancy technologies
• Experience in network troubleshooting and packet analysis, e.g., using tcpdump or ovn-trace
• Experience with SDN based on OVS and OVN
• Understanding of high availability, redundancy, and scalable network architectures
• Proficiency in network automation, e.g., using Ansible, Python, and APIs
• Experience with one or more vendors such as Arista, FortiGate, SONiC, Edgecore, or comparable platforms
• A structured, solution-oriented approach to work with a hands-on mindset
• Strong communication skills and a passion for teamwork
• Good command of German and English
