Background

Between Growth and Day-to-Day Operations

A growing supermarket chain wanted to align its internal IT with strategic future projects. However, backing up data across its expanding IT landscape required daily attention, and the company lacked the staff resources to handle this.

Added to this was the high workload associated with maintaining the existing infrastructure: script modifications, patch management, and client maintenance took up a great deal of time. At the same time, test restores, reporting, and structured incident handling needed to run reliably.

The company was looking for a partner who could reliably take over backup operations and ensure long-term compliance with the GDPR, retention periods, and access controls.

Solution

One-stop data backup, with control remaining with the customer

GRASS-MERKUR provides data backup as a managed service: from backup strategies—including schedules, retention periods, and encryption—to automated full, incremental, and differential backups at redundant locations, all the way through to recovery. Servers, virtual machines, storage, databases, applications, and cloud workloads are backed up.

Monitoring, alerts, and regular test restores ensure restore capability. Incidents are prioritized by severity (Severity 1 to 3); support is available 8x5 on weekdays, with optional 24x7 support for critical systems via pager or SMS alerts.

Weekly and monthly coordination meetings, as well as transparent reporting, keep the client team informed. End-to-end encryption and role-based access rights protect the data. Disaster recovery tests are prepared and supervised.

When data backups run reliably in the background, the internal IT department gains exactly what it needs for its future projects: time.
